Willy Tape 01 – Side A

Download “Willy Tape 01 – Side A”

The Willy Tape is a pretty simple concept.  Willy Lemay was a DJ who hit his peak in the 80s spinning at Spit (now Axis) at 13 Landsdowne St. in Boston, MA.  He distributed monthly mixtapes for over 10 years from 84-95 with some of the best new wave around.  I wanted to capture some of that music I was raised on in a “mixtape” of my own.  I never made the b-side, but maybe it’s coming soon.

The reason I call it a “mixtape” is because my original intention was to distribute it on cassette to truly pay respect to Willy (note the 45 minute runtime).  But I made this in 2006, so really it wasn’t a viable medium.  After all, cassettes died a while ago, but the song remains the same.  What follows is a mix of great 80s tunes with samples from 80s movies.  It’s a fun ride, hope you enjoy.
